Anyway, General Motors teased the hell out of truck fans with their GMC Urban Utility Concept. GM Labs, a half research department, half public relations gimmick, dropped teaser images of the GMC Utility vehicle before its official 2010 North American International Auto Show reveal. From what we see, this isn’t another redressed Yukon Denali (on the reg) – GMC is pitching the Urban Utility Concept (previously disclosed as the Chevrolet Orlando-based “Granite”) as the mobile home-away-from-home for the modern youth, calling it “a new breed of truck that’s as efficient as it is chic, innovative as it is functional.” Stay tuned for specs and official images from the GMC booth at NAIAS 2010!

GM, the always trendy car maker, is hitting up eBay in a partnership to launch a “Click and Buy” site – so now you can bid a $30,000 GMC pickup to way past $50,000. Currently only offered in California, but sure to spread if “Click and Buy” takes off, over 225 dealerships will participate, offering Chevy, GMC, Pontiac and Buick vehicles.

The micro-site, gm.ebay.com, will launch tomorrow, August 11th, and allow dealers to place cars online in the same fashion they would an old pair of Doc Martins or a used bicycle – ‘inventories will be put online with what GM calls “competitive” prices and buyers will have the option of either clicking “Buy it Now” (if they agree to the advertised price) or “Make Offer” to negotiate the price down further. Buyers will be able to compare participating dealer prices’ – according to Left Lane News.

“Together with eBay Motors, GM and our dealers are reinventing the car-buying experience for our California customers,” said Mark LaNeve, GM sales vice president in a statement released by the automaker. “As the dealer showroom expands from the parking lot to the laptop, this makes it easier for a customer to browse available new-car inventory, make an offer, buy it now, or send a message asking for more information from a dealer – all at the customer’s convenience.”

For the past month, Chrysler owner Cerberus has been in talks with General Motors about a possible merger of the two car companies. These talks were supposed to be secret, but it looks like the cat is out of the bag. GM denied speaking to Chrysler at first, while the CDJ has been hush hush, except stating that the company is not open to discussing any business matters to the public.

A merger between two automotive giants could be great, for the finance department anyway. With any corporate get together someone is going to me left out of the party. Would GMC make the cut?

The problem may be with their line up. GMC is General Motors’ largest producer of pickup trucks and small/midsize SUV’s in North America. What’s the problem? Well, if Chrysler is going to become the head of production above GM models they already have Dodge trucks, Jeep SUVs and other Chevrolet pickup models. What’s the upside? GMC’s Sierra pickup is one of the top full size trucks on the market today. Sierra is one of the best selling pickups in the southern states, and has even made it onto the Top 5 Most Stolen Trucks in Texas list. We have to say, somehow being on a Top-5 such as this is quite the compliment.

If a merger between Cerberus and GM were to go through we don’t honestly see any makes or models being cut – at first. But you should get used to seeing more rebranded cars and trucks between the two auto makers.
