For the past month, Chrysler owner Cerberus has been in talks with General Motors about a possible merger of the two car companies. These talks were supposed to be secret, but it looks like the cat is out of the bag. GM denied speaking to Chrysler at first, while the CDJ has been hush hush, except stating that the company is not open to discussing any business matters to the public.

A merger between two automotive giants could be great, for the finance department anyway. With any corporate get together someone is going to me left out of the party. Would GMC make the cut?

The problem may be with their line up. GMC is General Motors’ largest producer of pickup trucks and small/midsize SUV’s in North America. What’s the problem? Well, if Chrysler is going to become the head of production above GM models they already have Dodge trucks, Jeep SUVs and other Chevrolet pickup models. What’s the upside? GMC’s Sierra pickup is one of the top full size trucks on the market today. Sierra is one of the best selling pickups in the southern states, and has even made it onto the Top 5 Most Stolen Trucks in Texas list. We have to say, somehow being on a Top-5 such as this is quite the compliment.

If a merger between Cerberus and GM were to go through we don’t honestly see any makes or models being cut – at first. But you should get used to seeing more rebranded cars and trucks between the two auto makers.
